Its amazing how sensitive our eyes can be to the faintest light, I always feel that the night sky is more intense when you tilt your head up and see it first hand, then through capturing it with thousands of dollars in equipment.
Nonetheless, I am always surprised by exactly how many stars reside in even the darkest corner of the sky. Below are two photos centered around the Cygnus Constellation (the Northern Cross) and towards the center of our Milky Way Galaxy. The first photo is a composite of 5, 8-second exposures and the second is similar, but with an infrared filter. The B+W image displays much more of the glow that comes from the heart of our galaxy.
