Battle Studies

This gun is so cool and so powerful, it probably should be outlawed--so much freedom in such a small package. I must clarify, the gun was not loaded during this shoot, and yes I was aiming it out of our window for the scoped pictures. This is a DPMS LR308/B, meant to be an 18-round, semi-auto "varmint" rifle. With the short barrel and 10x scope, its only useful out to about 600yds, but .308 rounds are regularly used to 1,000 yards. Its technically classified as an Assault Rifle, but when Jenny took offense to that category, I told her to think of it as a "Defense Rifle". [To clarify for my friend Butch, it is setup as a sniper's rifle, but since it is built from an AR frame it could be considered either.]

A special thanks to Sniper Central for helping me select this rifle.

All of the photos were with a Canon 5D, but I used almost every lens we own to photograph various details of the gun. Minimal flash was used (its a black object, you have to fill in here and there) but the overcast day provided much of the light.

Nice clear pics! That 5D really does a great job. An the overcast lighting diffused really well!!

Yeah, the 5D's are great (although at the sizes I blog with the XTi would probably be good enough). Next time you come to D-Y-T we'll send a few rounds down-range.
